TREATMENT IS NOT ABOUT FORGETTING OR DISCOUNTING EARLY LIFE EXPERIENCES, BUT ABOUT TAKING THEM OFF-LINE
that offers fast,
effective results
Boarding School Trauma is a new way of approaching the difficulties of having been to boarding school. An approach that means we can use evidence-based treatment to generate healthy brain function and allow you to leave those events in the past.
You may have heard of another description: Boarding School Syndrome, even used it as a search term. The trouble is that syndromes are complex bundles of clinical features, the origins of which may not be clearly understood, if at all. Treatments typically last for years and focus on management or prevention – with no talk of a cure.
We believe that's of little use if your life remains disrupted by difficult memories. At his clinics on London's Harley Street, in Brighton and in Uckfield, East Sussex, Edward Sim is ready to help you with new, proven techniques.
Boarding School Trauma
Our approach is to describe what's happened to you in terms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the related Prolonged Duress Stress Disorder (PDSD). This means we can immediately use evidence-based treatment that is both focused and effective.
There's no need repetitiously to describe and relive the trauma. Our use of 21st Century treatments to generate healthy brain function enables you to separate the emotion from the memories, finally generating a healthy perspective on these events, and real-time relief.
We respect and understand that you may have a confusing mixture of positive and negative feelings about your time at boarding school. Generalized assumptions about the kind of emotional background boarders come from are not helpful. Effective treatment is what counts.
the key to effective
treatment
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can arise as a result of any situation at boarding school where you felt fundamentally threatened, even if you did not understand this at the time. People with PTSD struggle with flashbacks, nightmares, depression, anxiety and a lack of a sense of future.
Sometimes PTSD arises from a single major incident at boarding school. In other cases PTSD can build up slowly over time, and this is typical of many cases of Boarding School Trauma. This is called Prolonged Duress Stress Disorder (PDSD) and treatment is the same.
For many, the realisation that you have PTSD or PDSD, and so can be cured, can be transformative. Humans have evolved to recover from trauma. We can help restart that process. Contact us today to find out more.
over-medication
and self-medication
GPs often fail to diagnose PTSD and its derivatives. Depression, anxiety, and substance abuse are frequently mistaken as causes, not symptoms. You might have been referred to a counsellor or prescribed anti-depressants for years, even though they've been no real help.
We recommend the expert guidance of a consultant psychiatrist to reduce both medication and substance abuse. Dr Michael Rowlands has many years’ experience in treating patients with PTSD.
